BCHS BOARD MEETING April 12th, 2016 The Bremer County Historical Society met Tuesday evening, April 12th at the Waverly Civic Center at 7 PM. Thirteen board members were present. Hoodjer and Infelt were absent. Mackamul read the minutes from March. Lindell made the motion to approve, Hoffman seconded. Motion carried.
The Treasurer's Report was read by Hoffman. Balance in the checking account is $5,906.57. Lindell made the motion to approve. DeVries the second. Motion passed. Curator's Report: Heinemann told about the Denver Business Expo to be held May 5th from 5 -7 PM. They invited the Historical Society to set up a booth. Blanchard volunteered. It will be held at the Community Center by the Library.
Heinemann also reported that she has started cleaning on 3rd floor where it is very dirty. She would like to invest in a new vacuum. Jahnke made the motion to purchase a vacuum up to $250. Everding made the second. Motion passed. Blanchard would look into grants for it. Sunday hours and visitor count was discussed along with being closed on Sundays. Mackamul will check into hour requirements for grants.
Heinemann and DeVries gave a report on the appraiser. They advised selling Walking Tacos and lemonade. We can also sell garage sale type of items. The appraiser will have posters and will contact newspapers. There will be a large sign outside of the Droste building. Wartburg Marketing Project - Baker had samples of Chuck Clewell’s imprinting items. He showed the color brochure idea the Wartburg students designed. The board has mixed reviews on the web site design. The video ended up not being designed like promised.
Pizza Ranch Fundraiser - May 25th. A track meet is that weekend. 4th Grade Project -Committee meeting is needed. Debate on whether pencils need to be sharpened. Pam Egli attended the 2017 review process. Officers - Lindell is willing to be President. VP position will be open. Hoffman suggested having some meetings at the Poor Farm.
Blanchard gave a report on the Strategic Planning Workshop she attended in West Union at the Fayette County Historical building. She handed out a sample Procedures Manual. It should contain Bylaws and Articles of Incorporation.
Drenkow proposed having more Strategic Planning Committee meetings to figure out committees. Mackamul passed out a proposal compared to present committee assignments. April 21st was set up for another committee meeting on committees at 7 PM at Drenkow's office.
Hundley shared that April 28th there would be a Loft Apartment tour from 6-8 PM and the cost would be $5 that would go to the City Preservation committee.
Mackamul shared that April 25th was the Waverly Community Fund Story Teller event at Prairie Links Golf Course.
May Annual Meeting - May 3rd at the Waverly Civic Center. Matt Hoodjer would be speaking on One Room School Houses.
Lindell announced the next meeting would be held May 10th at 7 PM at the museum. Baker told the board that Lou Infelt would be dropping off the board. Lindell made the motion to adjourn at 8:30 PM. Heinemann seconded. Motion carried. Secretary, Gena Mackamul
