BCHS Board Meeting May 10th, 2016
The Bremer County Historical Society met, Tuesday, May 10th at 7 PM at the museum
building. Eight board members were present: Lindell, Mackamul, Heinemann, Jahnke,
Drenkow, Robinson, Blanchard, Everding. One guest - Kathy Magnall. Absent: Hoffman, Meyer,
Election of Officers was held first. Blanchard made the motion to approve the following
President - Terrance (Terry) Lindell
Vice-President - Rod Drenkow
Secretary - Gena Mackamul
Treasurer - Rosie Hoffman
Heinemann seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Other positions not voted on:
Curator – Jan Heineman
Membership Secretary – Jill Everding
Nominating Committee Chairperson – Jan Heineman
Co–director – Gena Mackamul
Web page – Priscilla Blanchard
Volunteer Cordinator – Jan Heineman
April Minutes were approved with a motion from Drenkow and seconded by Blanchard.
Treasurer's Report - None
Curator's Report - None
Proposal of Committee assignments. Responsibilities are listed in Strategic Planning
Report. Motion was approved for following the new format of committee structure.
Kathy Magnall introduced herself. The board approved of Kathy joining the Board of Directors.
The board took a break for a group photo in the Log Cabin Room.
Committees were then lined up as follows:
Administration - Lindell, Hoffman, Mackamul
Education/Events - Drenkow, Lindell, Heinemann
Collections - Heinemann, Blanchard
Building - Robinson, Jahnke, Mackamul, Everding
Development - Drenkow, Robinson, Magnall
United Way sub committee - Lindell, Mackamul
Fundraising sub committee - Blanchard
Publicity sub committee - Magnall
Lindell suggested in the next 2 weeks to meet with other members.
Museum Hours: Heinemann discussed the hours the museum is open. Sixteen hours are
required to be eligible for state grants. Drenkow made the motion to go along with her
suggestion of the museum being open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 1 - 4 PM and
Friday/Saturday from 1 - 4:30 PM. Closed Sunday and Monday's. Heinemann made the 2nd.
Motion carried. A news release will be needed about the change of hours.
Blanchard reported that she has been approved for a grant from Wal-mart. Details on that later.
She set up an Administration area on the web page that is password protected.
Mackamul presented designs for letterhead/logos. The Lions Club will need to receive a letter
on letterhead from our President soon. She will make changes and represent in June.
Pizza Ranch Fundraiser is May 25th. Mackamul will email who has signed up.
Parades were discussed. Magnall has a car that would work in the Heritage Day Parade. The
week before is Plainfield's parade that the schoolhouse float will be used.
The Bremer County Fair would like the Historical Society back in the Log Cabin this year. The
The Appraiser Event is set for Heritage Days starting at 1 PM. People pay ahead of time for
their appraisal. You can watch others.
United Way Project - The committee will need to meet again to go over things. Program will start
this fall. Packets can be put together this summer.
Denver Expo - Heinemann and Blanchard reported there was a good turnout. They were about
the only booth not giving away small items.
Road Meeting – Lindell shared that the DOT can put in a sensor that can monitor the vibrations
in the museum building.
German to Iowa Project - Drenkow will be going to Iowa City for the training workshop. One or
more will be attending from the Sister City Group on Sept. 25th.
Next meeting will be held June 14th at 7 PM at the museum.
Motion to adjourn by Drenkow. Seconded by Robinson. All approved.
