BCHS Board Meeting
The Bremer County Historical Society met, Tuesday, August 9th at 7 PM at Drenkow's office
Eleven board members were present: Lindell, Mackamul, Hoffman, Heinemann, Meyer,
Drenkow, Robinson, Blanchard, Hoodjer, Everding, Jahnke, Buls. Absent: Magnall.
July minutes were approved. Motion by Blanchard. Seconded by Robinson. Motion carried.
Treasurer's Report was read by Hoffman. Balance in checking is $9,061.37. Motion to approve
by Robinson. Seconded by Everding. Motion carried.
Heritage Days Report: Heinemann handed out break down on appraisal event. The Historical
Society's portion of the revenue is $225, rummage sale $188.50, refreshments $46. The board
discussed a new location for next year. The Event Committee will come up with options.
Bremer County Fair: Heinemann reported there was a good trickle through the Log Cabin.
Lindell reported that 22 free admission tickets to the museum were picked up.
Curator's Report: Heinemann told about visiting the Wilder Museum in Strawberry Point that
had been featured in the Courier. They have more than the doll display. A doll club had come in
to help design that display.
Building Committee: They updated the board on leaks. Hoodjer showed photos of the problem
on the roof and quotes on rubber roofing from JD Builders ($13,500 new roof and siding on
elevator shaft) and Yoder Construction ($11,700 roof only). Motion was made by Everding for
the bldg. committee to look into a fast fix and ask more questions with JD Builders.
Buls made the second. Motion passed. Hoodjer volunteered to do the fast fix. Mackamul
will look into an emergency grant for project.
Everding told about the sink in the basement where the AC drains. Hundley Plumbing
suggested plugging or replacing. Quote was $150. The motion
was made by Jahnke to go ahead and get only the drain line fixed. Seconded by Buls. Motion
carried. Jahnke volunteered to work on the weeds in the sidewalk.
Other Business: Heinemann told about the IA Culture Book. It has all the museums in Iowa in
it. 400 pages. Printed by Color fx. Our museum is in it. Jahnke made the motion to purchase the
museum book. Buls made the second. Motion passed.
Lindell told the board about the Blue Star Program. Museums are listed that Active Duty Military
and their family can receive a discount at. The board gave the OK to go ahead and get listed.
Next meeting will be held September 13th at 7 PM at the museum.
Motion to adjourn at 8:10 PM by Robinson. Seconded by Blanchard.
