BCHS Board Meeting September 13, 2016
The Bremer County Historical Society met, Tuesday, September 13 at 7 PM at the
museum. Twelve board members were present: Lindell, Mackamul, Hoffman,
Heinemann, Meyer, Drenkow, Robinson, Blanchard, Everding, Jahnke, Buls, Magnall.
August minutes were approved with corrections. Motion by Heinemann. Seconded by
Blanchard. Motion carried.
Treasurer's Report read by Hoffman. Balance in checking is $12,137.39. The Waverly
Lions Club donated $500 to go towards the gutter project. The Marvin & Helen
Schumacher Fund, through the Community Foundation, gave $2,500 towards the gutter
project. There is $2,600 yet to raise for the project. Motion to approve by Jahnke.
Seconded by Robinson. Motion carried.
Curator's Report: Heinemann will be meeting with Midwest Storage Solutions out of
Gutter Project: The board discussed different types of gutter and raised other
questions that Mackamul will ask D&G about.
Building Committee: The need for a dehumidifier was discussed. Motion was made by
Drenkow and seconded by Robinson for Blanchard to go ahead with a grant and
purchase a dehumidifier. Motion carried.
A motion was also made to hire an electrician to make sure the wiring can handle it
downstairs by Heinemann and seconded by Buls. Motion passed.
United Way: Lindell represented the Historical Society at the United Way kick-off.
Good comments were made on the 4th Grade Project.
Other Business: Mackamul told the board that E&H recommended a structural
engineer that they have worked with in the past with building restorations. The board
gave permission for the structural engineer to come look over the museum building.
Amazon Smiles sent a letter about registering for the program since there is a pending
donation. After discussion, the motion was made by Blanchard to register for Amazon
Smiles. Jahnke made the second. Motion carried.
Fourth Grade Project: The activity packet was discussed. The board agreed it needs
to tie into the museum more. The 4th grade classes need to be scheduled. A committee
meeting will be scheduled.
Development Committee: Drenkow reported the Development Committee will get
more active in October. He has invited 5 other people that are outside of the from the
community that have expertise in sales, promotion, and fund-raising.
Flea Market: Dates are November 4th and 5th. Jan will have things priced, but will not
be here those dates. Hours are noon - 7 pm on the 4th and 8 - 5 PM on the 5th.
Next meeting will be held Tuesday, October 11 at 7 PM at the museum.
Motion to adjourn at 8:06 PM by Drenkow. Seconded by Robinson. All approved.
