The Bremer County Historical Society met, Tuesday, November 15th at 7 PM at Drenkow's office.
Ten board members were present: Lindell, Mackamul, Hoffman, Heinemann, Meyer, Drenkow, Blanchard, Buls, Hoodjer, Magnall. Absent: Jahnke, Everding, Robinson.
October minutes stand approved.
Treasurer's Report was read by Heinemann. Balance in checking is $11,478.63. The treasurer's report stands approved.
Curator's Report: Mark Moran with the Antique Appraising has been lined up for March 25, 2017 from 10- 4 PM. Location is being determined. Waverly Public Library will check if this type of an event is allowable. Festival of Trees at Wartburg asked the BCHS to do a tree. Heineken & Peggy Hamilton have volunteered. Magnall can provide a tree. Flea Market: It was a success. Merlene DeVries and Priscilla ran the booth. They raised $1,000. The board agreed on doing it again in March. Hoffman will send in the deposit if a booth is available.
Building Committee Report: Buls told the board of a possible way of displaying the flag in the middle of the front railing. He will find out about costs. Mackamul had learned the structural engineer cost would be determined on what way we go about the south wall repairs.
Foundations: Drenkow told the board he learned about the McElroy Foundation and Gurnsey Foundation from Jon Tevin. Lindell will make contact with both foundations.
Christmas Window on Main: The board decided to do the window in Gade's Appliance again this December.
Development Committee Report: Drenkow reported the highest priority is making a database of current members. Second, is to recruit new members. Each board member could recruit 5 new members. Membership fees will be looked at. There could be member only events. Blanchard suggested kick-starters. For example, donating so much to get a certain item. Room sponsorships were another idea she had. Drenkow added that the by-laws might have to be changed.
4th Grade Project: Lindell reported that Cogdonʼs class from SE school came October 2nd. The bus was used. Evaluation quizzes have been returned.
German to Iowa Project: Drenkow is lining up the traveling exhibit to come to Waverly possibly during Octoberfest next September.
Future Pioneer Craft Class: Blanchard showed what the finished knitting project (scarf) would look like for the first crafting event.
Next meeting will be held Tuesday, January 10th at 7 PM. Location will be announced. Motion to adjourn at 8 PM by Drenkow. Seconded by Blanchard.
