BCHS Board Meeting April 18, 2017
The Bremer County Historical Society met, Tuesday, April 18th at 7 PM at the museum. Eight board members were present: Lindell, Mackamul, Heinemann, Drenkow, Blanchard, Robinson, Buls, Meyer. Absent: Jahnke, Hoodjer, Magnall, Everding, Hoffman.
March minutes stand approved. Buls made the motion. Heinemann the 2nd. Motion carried. No treasurer’s report available. Hoffman recently broke her leg.
Curator’s Report: Heinemann reported that the Antique Appraisal event was cancelled due to a lack of the minimum amount of items to appraise. The scanning event held at the museum on April 8th had 2 people attend. The museum had some photos for them to scan. She also told the board about a Prisoner of War exhibit developed by the National Park Service that we could use. Scheduling goes through 2020. She will check into the cost.
A display has been set up at the 1st National Bank for a month or two.
A list of maintenance items needed was passed to building committee members.
The garden area needs spring work. A workday was lined up for April 25th at 5:30 PM.
June 12-18 is Iowa museum week. There is a new display of Artesian Store items in the Veterans Room.
Annual Meeting: Tuesday, May 2nd it will be held. Set-up will be at 5:45 PM. Lindell will be providing the WWI items for display. Each board member can bring a dozen bar/cookies/snacks. Heinemann will bring the lemonade.
Lindell has put notices in the Denver, Tripoli, Sumner papers, Courier and Waverly Newspapers. Membership Secretary should be at the door to collect memberships. Blanchard suggested something for people to sign in at the meeting.
Board Vacancies: The board discussed possible people to ask to become board members.
Brochure: The board discussed changes needed in the brochure and having new ones printed by the May annual meeting. Changes include removing Lifetime Memberships, raising individual memberships to $20 and family membership to $30. There was also discussion on having something to give out for memberships.
Articles of Incorporation & Bylaws: Robinson passed around proposed Article Amendments to be approved at the May annual meeting. Copies of the proposals will be passed out at that meeting. Bylaws will be changed later. Lindell will present the vote at the meeting.
Other Business: Development committee will be getting started on writing up job descriptions. Blanchard volunteered to help out with lining up volunteers. A Heritage Day solicitation was denied.
Blanchard has contacted Jackson Auction House for a future appraising event.
Everding will get together with Blanchard for training on Past Perfect Software for memberships.
After discussing an electrical problem, a motion was made by Drenkow and seconded by Robinson to hire Dean’s Light Box to fix the problem on the 3rd floor. Motion carried.
Motion to adjourn at 8:15 PM by Drenkow. Seconded by Robinson. All approved.
Next meeting will be May 9th at 7 PM at the museum.
