The Bremer County Historical Society met Tuesday evening, Sept. 12th at Drenkow’s office at 7 PM. Board members present included: Drenkow, Everding, Heinemann, Magnall, Mackamul, Robinson, Hoffman, and Buls. Via Facetime: Blanchard. Absent: Hoodjer and Meyer. Two guests: Fran Mueller, and Jim Infelt from Amperage Marketing & Fundraising.
Minutes from the August meeting were approved by Robinson. Seconded by Magnall. Treasurer Report was approved by Buls and seconded by Heinemann. Motion carried. Another motion was made by Robinson and seconded by Everding to move the CD coming due into savings. Motion passed.
Go Fund Me Account: Blanchard set up the account and monitor. Consistent sending out is required to remind people that it is there. Robinson suggested issuing receipts. The board felt it was a good policy to send out thank-you notes. Blanchard will send a guide for board members to follow to promote the fund.
Curator’s Report: Jan asked whether to accept the last two checks from United Way. Mackamul will ask Jill from United Way how to proceed with the funding we are not using.
Heinemann would like to advertise for a handyman for the museum. Drenkow had someone in mind to ask. Mueller told the board that a team from the Rotary could help out with projects. They will be considered in the spring.
Gutter Project: Mackamul presented two bids to the board. One from Bergmann Gutters for the additional small areas that Hoodjer had pointed out that needed gutter on the building for $3,068.60. The other bid was from Jim Hundley’s Plumbing for plastic piping to drain the downspout to the alley for $520. After discussion on whether to wait or go ahead, the board decided it would be less in the long term to go ahead. The motion was made by Robinson to proceed on the main gutter project and the additional 2 quotes. Heinemann made the second. Motion carried. Materials will be ordered soon and project might be completed late this fall.
Drenkow introduced Jim Infelt, a Waverly native, to speak to the board on how his Amperage Marketing Company could help the museum out. He gave examples of how they had helped out other museums. Jim also told how websites need to be designed and about Search Engine Optimization being important. The board needs to tell them what the end goal is. The person in his company experienced with fund raising is Jennifer Rubul. He will see if she can talk to our board.
Grants: The board thought a grant to fund the engineering study for the east wall is next in importance. A meeting between Mackamul, Blanchard, and D. Meyer from the Preservation Commission will be set up by Drenkow to go over grant opportunities. Robinson made the motion to go ahead with the grant committee of Blanchard and Mackamul to meet with Meyer. Heinemann made the second. Motion passed.
Motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:20 PM was by Robinson. Seconded by Buls.. Next meeting will be October 10th. Meeting location will be announced.
