Denver Veterans Tribute
A community tribute for veterans
Many towns and cities decided to construct memorial parks for veterans who served in the armed forces. The Denver American Legion decided to join in and build its own Veterans Tribute park.
The old Lahmann Chevrolet building was demolished, and the City of Denver made that property available for the project. A Denver Legion committee was formed in 2005 to pursue the project. The committee included Don Henniges, Herman Emkes, Sam Smith, Jim Stephens, and Butch Milius.
Maifield Landscaping in New Hampton served as the primary contractor. With the help of subcontractors, monetary gifts, and many volunteers, the Veterans Tribute was ready for dedication on Veterans Day in 2007.
The highlight of the dedication was having Maj. Gen. Evan “Curly” Hultman as guest speaker. The tribute houses more than 100 engraved bricks, with room for more.
